Rachel’s Method of Working
Rachel works from life, either outside or in her studio with her dog Bruce for company.
She believes in observational drawing, keeping a sketch book to capture the emotional response to what she sees before her eyes, making little notes and splashes of watercolour to help her develop a finished painting.
Working in the studio she paints with vigour, sometimes completing a piece of work in that session or creating one over many sessions, by laying impasto oil colours and perhaps smudging or scraping the paint until happy with the composition and mood.
Subjects
Her work demonstrates her love of rural and coastal Wales nurtured whilst growing up on Anglesey and in Colwyn Bay and feature predominantly in her work.
Travels to Europe and New Zealand absorbing different landscape and culture, joined with a willingness to learn more about “paint”, inspire her to create new works.
